I approached Sleek with an idea to produce a glow in the dark shell so in the night club i could easily find my earphones and also a provide a stunning glowing in a dark look at the club. David was a huge help and kept me updated at every step of the process. When they arrived on my door step and when i got the first look at them I was stunned, they turned out better than i ever expected. I used them the first night and got a ton of complements and my ears found their true love. These things glow for my entire club set (4 hours) and usually are still glowing even after the after party. The glow that these earphones produce are a very bright eye catching glow. Aside from the glow the earphones are by far the best sound i have ever heard. the highs are crystal clear and the lows sound better than the night clubs $100,000 sound system. I would recommend these to anybody looking for a high quality sound, amazing customization, and unmatched customer service. Thanks again Sleek, my ears will never be the same.

In addition to a superb product (I am currently listening to Little WIng/Third Stone from the Son by Stevie Ray Vaughan and the sparkle of the cymbals and the heart-pounding bass drum are truly lifelike for an IEM), the SA6’s are tiny and light and easy to fit with sufficient stability that you can walk, run, whatever, and forget that they are on, the customer service has been excellent.

Jason has personally and promptly responded too my emails requesting aftermarket stuff (replacement tips, etc.). You can rest assured that this is a startup that takes pride in assuring that its customers are covered after sale.

I hear things in my music that I was unable to hear with my previous IEMs. The SA6s are detailed, clear and have a very nice soundstage. They are also extremely comfortable, which could not be said for my old IEMs. The custom tuning is simply amazing. I was able to setup the SA6s to my liking withing a few hours of listening. There is nothing else out there that come close for me. Lastly, the overall design and quality of the SA6s is excellent. From the packaging, to the earphones themselves, everything is top notch. Well worth the money.

“this is the first pair of IEM that I have had the pleasure of listening to that blows anything I ever owned out of the water when it comes to sound quality.”

When I was looking at a new pair of IEM (my only experience with them being with the Sony MDR-EX71) to replace my BeyerDynamic DT770 Pro for everyday music listening (and to remove the umbilical cord I have with my laptop using those, and to be portable) I stumbled upon this thread, got inspired by the great reviews and the ability to tweak your own sound. Crying wallet in hand, I ordered a pair and ever since I received them, I have never looked back… I’m not by any mean a professional reviewer, just a “headphone enthusiast”

I know most people here will do a IEM vs. IEM review, I will however do something a bit different. Why? Well, because this is the first pair of IEM that I have had the pleasure of listening to that blows anything I ever owned out of the water when it comes to sound quality. Doing a quick comparison between the SA6 and the DT770 Pro, using a 1st Gen iPod Shuffle (192k CBR

mp3s) thru a HeadRoom Total Airhead amp (using crossfeed), I would say that the SA6 beats the DT770 Pro in almost every aspect. I used the Treble ++ and Bass + and the medium tips on the SA6.

The DT770 Pro has a bit more treble, but sounds colder. The SA6 has a wider soundstage, warmer middles and tighter bass. The SA6’s sound isolation is also incredibly good. I can’t hear the constant creaking sounds of my favourite lazy-boy chair when I’m gently rocking myself with them on. The only point I would give to the DT770 Pro over the SA6 is the middles. While they do sound warmer with the SA6, they seem to be slightly more upfront with the DT770 Pro, an impression which I realized after listening to Above & Beyond’s Tri-State (Robert Nickson Intro Remix). There is a synth sound that comes in about halfway through the song that is clearly more heard on the DT770 Pro than on the SA6, something I also noticed listening to I Awake’s “Journey” track (beautiful, can’t wait for the full album in May!).

I have been listening to a lot of Trance/Dance music lately, and regarding the bass… Well, it seems to largely depends on what album you are listening to. On Paul van Dyk’s La Dolce Vita from his latest CD “In Between” (that song sounds like a rip-off of 4 Strings’ “Take Me Away” song from 2003) the bass drum is solid and felt. On David Guetta’s “Baby When The Lights” the bass drum sounds a bit more recessed. Comparing the DT770 Pro with the SA6’s bass response, I would say that the SA6 has a slight edge over the DT770 Pro. The bass is just physically felt more w/o overpowering anything else.

Anyway, I’m not going to go into a mastering review, but suffice it to say that before you judge the SA6 abilities, listen to multiple albums.

Mastering an album is an art in itself and differs greatly from artist to artist (not all types of music are mastered the same way either) and will impact how the SA6 performs, obviously.

So, as I said in the beginning, this review was more intended for someone looking to replace a good pair of headphones with a pair of IEM. Everything is subjective, so your experience might be different than mine. But at the moment, I completely stopped using the DT770 Pro and use the SA6 all the time now. Oh, and a quick note for those who own Sony’s MDR-EX71… Picture a very small and dark room. Now picture a large hall perfectly lighted up.

This is how I felt when I tried the MDR-EX71 and then put on the SA6.

Ok, so I’ve never been good at giving technical reviews of audio equipment, but what I lack in description, I will make up to all of you in honesty.

The SA6s sound just plain awesome, that’s about it. And by plain, I don’t mean dull, I mean that in my opinion there’s zero argument that even at $250 these are still a fantastic value. I’ve owned both the Westone UM2 and the Atrio M5 and I feel that these are a fantastic combination of the two.

I get deep, accurate, punchy bass very similar in quality to the M5s (though the atrios still have an obvious edge in bass quantity), as well as fantastic mids a la Westone UM2, all this without the very noticeable treble roll-off in the highs.

Live tracks actually sound LIVE, and studio recordings sound better than they ever have before. I believe there was a head-fier in the SA6 thread who said they felt they finally found the perfect IEM for them and I couldn’t agree more. These bad boys have everything a person could want in an earphone and of course the obvious plus is that they actually sound FANTASTIC.

I admit when I first saw these in the fall of ‘07 I thought they were a stupid gimmick and wouldn’t amount to anything, yet here I am at this very moment rocking the hell out to Slayer like I never have before.

Much like the Atrio M5s these handle just about every genre of music extremely well and I find that they are just awesome with Metal and techno specifically.

There is no doubt in my mind that in my six years of IEM experience, these are the best things I’ve ever put in my ear canals, and judging by the size of the SA6 thread [http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/sleek-sa6-282483/], it seems to me that others are in agreement.

“After 4 weeks of use I have to conclude that the SA6 is a superbly designed and crafted IEM.”

Comfortable and easy to use, they are capable of achieving the highest levels of resolution, dynamics and neutrality that can easily reveal the true nature of source material and equipment. My main reference? Stax Sigma (non-Pro) driven by Tim De Paravacini EAR 509 MkII 100WPC valve monoblocs.

Suggestions for new users:-

1. Burn in first for min 72hrs.

2. Correct fitting is important; if sound is thin or bass-light, change to small tips for deeper fit and better seal.

3. Test with as many sources as possible; high-quality, neutral sources should not require changing ports.

Improvements? Use of pure silver wire throughout, perhaps cryogenic treatment.

“I just received the earphones around 2 hours back. All I can say is “WOW!!!!”. Definitely exceeds expectation.”

For price vs. performance, this one blows the competition away completely.

I did a comparitive analysis with and without a headphone amp…just used a single one – the Xin Supermini – IV

I compared it to the following earphones on the market, which are my favorites that I use on a daily basis. Each has it’s flaws…or so called pros and cons.

- Etymotic ER-6

- Westone UM1

- Shure E550

- AKG K701 – headphone…doesn’t count…but just for comparision sake.

The SA6 blew the ER-6 and UM1 out of the water with respect to overall presentation.

The real test was could it stand up to the E550, the triple driver beast of in-ear monitors. I have to say the bass response is more monstrous compared to the SA6. It is tight and very refined and never ever boomy. Too much like a stuck up English butler.

Now I would compare the E550 to an mass market super car…maybe a Lexus…great but no unique character. The SA6 has that certain raw nature about it which I think makes it my favorite for now. For a single driver earphone it is amazing. I have to admit I was skeptical at first before ordered but I’m glad I pre-ordered this great product for you.

People just have to throw away their pre-conceived ideas about earphones and just take audition of the SA6. It truly is the best product for the price..period. I’m no expert, and these are just my initial impressions and they’re super good.

What I liked about the SA6 is there is a certain unique character to the sound, very organic, and that’s a good thing. It takes the best qualities of every headphone I’ve owned and the best part is the sound customization. I found + Bass and Treble worked for me after trying all the combinations.

The SA6 is definitely going to be my most listened to earphone for sure. I found that the SA6 is also more forgiveable to low bit rate music when compared to high bit rate music. A plus in my book. It sound amazing right out the box and connected directly to an MP3 player. I tried it on the:-

- iPod Nano 1 Gen

- iPod Nano 2 Gen

- iPod Classic 5.5 Gen

- iPod Touch

Anything that was thrown at the SA6 just simply sounded amazing…and no need for any headphone amp. Tried VanHalen all the way to Megadeth, Beethoven and Cypress Hill….Korn, Meshuggah…the list goes on….everything sounded really good.

Just though I’d share some feedback. You have got an amazing product on your hands and it’s just a matter of changing consumer pre-conceptions and to let them welcome something new..which is a challenge but not impossible.

How many have I tried, you ask? Well, I’m including a review I’ve been working on below:

Shure SE530

the good

- Amazing response and clarity
- Selection of ear sleeves allows a proper fit
- iPod seems to drive them as well as my headphone amp

the bad

- Harsh treble; a general problem of canalphones, but more pronounced here
- Less bass on rock tracks than I hoped for with triple armatures
- Awkward/ugly cabling

Ultimate Ears super.fi 5 pro

the good

- Lots of bass (though not with much definition)
- Fantastic sound for $190 (via HeadRoom)

the bad

- Lacking treble
- L/R poorly marked
- They protrude pretty far out of the ears, making me nervous about what could happen if they get bumped

q-JAYS

the good

- Great form factor
- L/R well marked

the bad

- None of my audio sources seemed to drive them properly
- Way too much treble, way too little bass

Etymotic Research ER-4

the good

- Incredible definition without brittle treble

the bad

- Not producing much below 100 Hz (granted, the high definition elsewhere else makes this more noticable)
- Seemed to want to be inserted farther into my ear than anything has a right to go.
- Hard to drive with an iPod, but OK with the Edirol

Sleek Audio (with neutral treble filter and bass port)

the good

- Most balanced sound so far; plenty of bass, plenty of definition, no treble harshness
- Fantastic cabling
- Sounds great on the iPhone

the bad

- L/R poorly marked
- Storage case needs a redesign
